Dick Lopez
I believe that photographs are as much about the photographer as they are about the subjects they photograph.
In 1996, with the help of Long Island based photographers, artists, and educators, business and civic leaders, the Long Island Center of Photography (LICP) was established. Its mission was to promote diversity and creativity in the fields of photography and related media, with an emphasis on the character and history of Long Island. Since its inception, LICP has conceived and promoted numerous programs and events tailored to the interests and needs of the region. These programs and events include workshops, seminars, exhibitions, regional photography competitions, special presentations of emerging contemporary photographers, speaker programs, and other community outreach initiatives.
As LICP’s founder, I had the honor of spearheading the movement. As the
organization evolves under its new leadership, I am confident that its members will continue to support these creative programs and honor LICP's original mission.
